I sent Bob German the website master for the
Sherburne site an e-mail and he passed along my e-mail to his
wife who passed it along to Kathy Yasas who responded with some
really good and some not so good information. Read on...

Dear Dan,
Kate Severinsen (via Bob German) passed your email along to
me re: the Sherburne color guard. Barb Plonus is now Barb McCarty
(married to Steve) and still lives in Sherburne. Kathy Delfucco,
sadly, passed away several years ago, as did Roy. I think Roy
and his wife were divorced before he died, and I don't have
any info on her. Frank Miller, our band director, lives in Florida.
As for Karen...could you mean Karen Yacono? If so, she is well
and living in Rochester, married, don't know her married name
but I can find out for you as I still speak regularly with her
sister Teresa. Their mom, Kate McNitt, lives in Sherburne with
husband David. Others you may remember: Lori Crandall (now Bergeron,
lives in Sherburne, husband is Jeff), Joanne Tarbell (in Sherburne),
Pat Grant (not in Sherburne but still in touch with Sherburne
friends), Mary Yacono (in Sherburne), Pat Day (not in Sherburne
but easily reached through her cousin)...Do any of these names
ring a bell?
As you may (or may not) know, the Sherburne-Earlville band and
color guard has an alumni group that marches every 5 years or
so at the Sherburne pageant of bands the first Saturday in June.
The alumni band is scheduled to "do it again" in two years at
the pageant's 60th anniversary. I've cced Rose Tenney on this
email. Rose is in charge of the alumni band/guard and we've
been talking about setting up an alumni band and color guard
division for the PoB so we can compete against each other again.
If Aquinas has an alumni band and guard, maybe you guys would
be interested in participating. (Rose, please scroll down for
Dan's contact info).
Re: me, I was in color guard in my freshman year, then moved
to the band the following three years (a long and tragic saga
of mean girl antics...ha ha). At any rate, while I live on Long
Island I have a home in Sherburne and am up there regularly.
I don't have Barb's email but can get it easily, and I often
run into many of the "old" color guard girls.
Let me know if I can be of any more help, and please get in
touch with Rose if your group is interested in participating
in an alumni division at the pageant in Sherburne in 2009.
Best,
Kathy

Hi Dan
I'm so glad to be included
in the 'loop' here as it were. I realize you are in
the process of relocating but I hope I can encourage you
to keep trying to get a reunion going with the Aquinas Band
or at least the Color Guard.
I am trying my best to
get the current band director and pageant coordinator at
Sherburne to include an alumni division for the 2009 pageant
only. If somehow you can manage to make a connection
with at least one more interested Aquinas band alum, you
will be well on the way to getting a committee together
to organize your alumni band. I just checked the website
for Aquinas and you do have an alumni directory. There probably
are several former band members listed there and someone
has to be willing to bite to get this going! When
we did S-E's first marching reunion, we had a committee
of about 6 people who wrote letters, called locals and put
ads in papers to track down people.
Please keep me informed
and do try to get a few other helpers on this project.
I know the people in Sherburne would be delighted to welcome
your group to the pageant in a year and a half, and that
should be enough time to draw a representative group to
at least make an appearance on a float (although if your
group is like ours, we'd rather march and die trying than
ride down Main Street . . .)
