At intervals in the history of a school, there appears that rare combination of artist, teacher and human being which raises the profession of teaching from an occupation to a fine art. No one in Aquinas' splendid faculty better exemplifies these characteristics than Father Cyril Udall, director of the music department for the past twelve years, who leaves his post at the conclusion of the academic year to assume a college professorship. Under the direction of Father Udall the Aquinas Band has become one of the outstanding high school musical organizations in the country. Currently it is the defending. champion of the American Legion State Band Contest and the Gorham Pageant of Bands competition. It has frequently been said, and quite properly, that the Aquinas Band has influenced high school marching bands throughout the state. To this development the contribution of Father Udall has been very great indeed. |
